These notices include information on:
- A parent's right to inspect/amend education records;
- The release of certain directory information without written consent (e.g. yearbook, honor roll, graduation programs) and your right to instruct us to not release that information;
- The release of information to military recruiters, college/university recruiters and prospective employers and your right to instruct us by Oct. 1 to not release that information;
- Your rights regarding the district's use of surveys and certain physical exams;
- And a letter informing parents of students in schools that receive Title I funds (Crawford-Rodriguez, Holman, Johnson, and Switlik Elementary Schools and Jackson Township 5-6 School) of their Right to Know qualifications of teachers and our Title I parental involvement policy (#2415.04)
Free and Reduced Meal Applications

This notice encourages families in financial need to apply for Free or Reduced Lunch services. You can now apply ONLINE for Free or Reduced Lunch and receive a determination IMMEDIATELY if you qualify. NOTE: If you received benefits last year, you must re-apply by Oct. 20 to avoid an interruption in your benefits.
- Think you don’t qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch? You might! Income limits have increased and MANY more families qualify now. For example, a household of 4 that has an income of $72,016 would qualify in NJ.
- Don’t eat school lunch? Still apply! If eligible, you may qualify for other benefits, discounts, or grants.
- Don’t think it matters? It does! The district receives additional funding based on the number of eligible students - and those funds support ALL students!
- Applications are CONFIDENTIAL. Citizenship status DOES NOT MATTER. Please Apply Today!

Harassment, Intimidation and Bullying

A copy of our district policy against bullying harassment and intimidation (#5512) You may have received this policy in a condensed form from your building principal. It is important to note that this policy applies to all acts of harassment, intimidation and bullying that occur on school property, at school-sponsored functions or on a school bus.
Our district uses a number of approaches to encourage students to respect each other and to report any and all behavior that could be construed as bullying. We encourage you to speak to your child about this subject and to discuss the protections offered through this policy.Please also see additional Anti-Bullying Information on our website for information to help the district, parents and students prevent, discuss and handle incidents of bullying. Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the educational landscape, offering powerful tools that can enhance teaching, personalize learning, and streamline administrative tasks. In the Jackson School District, we recognize both the opportunities and challenges that AI presents. As such, the District has adopted Policy 2365 to govern its use in tandem with the Jackson School District AI Plan (LINK). As we integrate these technologies into our classrooms, this plan provides clear, thoughtful guidelines that promote ethical use, academic integrity, and equitable access.
Student and Parent Acknowledgement of Spectator Code of Conduct for Interscholastic Events

The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association requires districts to establish policies and procedures related to sportsmanship and to identify responsibilities of administrators, coaches, and students to ensure their observance. This policy details what is considered unsportsmanlike conduct of a fan or spectator, the disciplinary framework if actions are determined to be prohibited by the policy, the appeals process and the way the policy will be implemented.
Students and parents are required to view the Jackson School District Policy 9163 - Spectator Code of Conduct for Interscholastic Events and acknowledge through our annual notice form that you have reviewed it, understand it and agree to be bound by its terms.

As part of this inspection process, we are required to notify parents, faculty, and staff annually of any pertinent changes in the district relating to asbestos-containing materials. The inspection reports are on file at each of our schools and a complete district-wide set is available in the Administration Building, 151 Don Connor Blvd., Jackson NJ 08527.

Health Curriculum and Family Life Instruction
-
The Jackson School District follows the 2020 New Jersey Student Learning Standards for Comprehensive Health and Physical Education, which also includes family life education and sex education. Information about these standards - including an easy-to-read outline of each standard and how they are applied in age-appropriate ways - can be found through the link below.
NJ law allows parents to opt their children out of instruction in health, family life education or sex education.
18A:35-4.7. Parent's statement of conflict with conscience
Any child whose parent or guardian presents to the school principal a signed statement that any part of the instructions in health, family life education or sex education is in conflict with his conscience, or sincerely held moral or religious beliefs shall be excused from that portion of the course where such instruction is being given and no penalties as to credit or graduation shall result therefrom.Letters for Grade 5, 8 and 11 students will be sent via email to the student and the parent/guardian before the Health Lessons are presented:
for Grade 5 this will be in May;
for Grade 8 this will be before the Second Semester;
for Grade 11 it will be on or before the end of Semester 1; On or before Semester 2 (depending on when the student has health).
If an opt-out component is chosen - the emailed letter is to be returned fully completed - to the child's Physical Education Teacher by the date designated in the communication.
Parents/guardians may also submit a letter to their child's Physical Education Teacher if you would like to opt your children out of instruction in health, family life education or sex education.
- Please submit a signed letter to your child's Physical Education Teacher by October 1 of a given school year, or at any other time you are invited to do so by your child's Physical Education Teacher and/or Principal.
